Beat Connection "Promotional" Remix
December 3rd, 2010
After wisely posting their stellar Surf Noir EP up on the myspace-killing Bandcamp for several months, the UW duo (Jordan Koplowitz and Reed Juenger) Beat Connection wisely pulled it down when they had reached a record deal with a Moshi Moshi Records partner last month. To keep us bounce freaks happy and the promotion machine in full gear, however, there is now a one-song “promotional remix” available on their page. I SUGGEST LISTENING TO IT DAMMIT

It’s actually a reworking of a Silver Columns tune, but it has BC’s fingerprints all over it. As such, it’s pretty much just as good as anything on the EP, though it doesn’t exactly have the same shoreline aesthetic. No seagulls flocking in the beginning of a song or anything CRAZY like that. The lyrics talk about summer, to be sure, but the backing beat and ghastly synths lend it a darkness that actually suits the band quite well. Make no mistake, this is a remix, and a banger at that, but there’s some sort of Bollyhood club vibe to it that makes me dig it. World Music! (not really)
