South Seattle’s destination neighborhood is Georgetown, the rust-colored, industrial arts community slowly growing at a semi-gentrified pace. They even have a Via Tribunali now and the Miller Building along 13th has a bunch of new tenants. I do love me some Georgetown grit, but lately I haven’t been getting down there near as much as I used to (confidential to Smarty Pants: save me a sandwich, please.) Lucky for me and for the rest of us, the Georgetown Music Fest is still going strong with its fifth installment coming up in nine days. The weekend of June 25th (6 – 11 pm) & 26th (12pm – 11 pm) will feature a modestly sized lineup with some popular local names, particularly of the “rappin” variety. You might check out penetrating hip hoppers Dark Time Sunshine, bookish folk popsters the Pica Beats, Ra Scion’s alter ego Victor Shade, Sportn’ Life Record’s street philosopher Fatal Lucciano, or the ultra intriguing electro psych-folk of the Webelos (seriously, check these last guys out). Or any of the other 20+ bands that are playing:
