I gave this a listen at work today. It seems to be a bit more subdued than their last two (lots of Britt and a piano), except for a few really groovy tracks. It’s ok; course, I’m the kind of person who thinks Girls Can Tell and Kill the Moonlight are their best records.

You’re definitely not alone in that last sentiment. I don’t think I’ve even listened to any Spoon album in its entirety past Kill the Moonlight.

I think Transference is a return to the roots of exactly what you say is so good in the early Spoon works. Much better than the GAG GAG GAG (sic) thing that came out before. Minimalist tracks, simple driving rhythms and the incredible hooks in “Written in Reverse”… the very things that draw me to Series of Sneaks and Kill the Moonlight. But please.. nothing past Kill the Moonlight?
Gimmie Fiction is Spoon’s crowning accomplishment through and through.
