New Feral Children Album Deets

December 3rd, 2009

Through the wonders of social networking sites like Facebook and myspace, local rabble-rousing throb-rockers Feral Children have bestowed upon us details of their forthcoming sophomore album. It will be titled Brand New Blood and will be released January 19th (digitally on December 8th) through Sarathan Records. (Side note of hilarity: did anyone see the Halloween episode of The Office this year, where Jim wrote “BOOK” on his face, and Darryl refers to him as “bookface” and Jim sardonically replies, “Yes, I am the popular social networking site known as Bookface”? Hilarious.) On the cover, there’s a man—presumably blotto—levitating above a bar.

.

As part of a little week-by-week revealing strategy, you can listen to a couple new songs over on the one of those two sites that has the music player. So far they’ve unveiled “Castrato” and “Enchanted Parkway”. I’d tell you what they sound like ‘cept that stupid site won’t let me listen right now. I really hate that. Anyway, hopefully the new stuff sounds better than last time I heard it at Neumos, cuz I wasn’t really feelin’ it. But I’ve heaped a lot of praise on this band over the past few years, so I’ll hold my breath. (Betcha never thought you’d hear me say that, huh?)

.

More thorough blog post, straight from the horse’s mouth, after the jump/cut/fold/whatever.

.

We’ve started our fires in the forest and soon we will bring them to the cities with our second full-length album titled, Brand New Blood, to be released on Sarathan Records. Your first chance to buy the album will be when we release it for digital release on Tuesday, December 8th, and then you can go out and buy it in stores on Tuesday, January 19th…..

.. ..

We have already been playing songs from Brand New Blood at recent shows and the response has been ravenous. To celebrate the digital release of Brand New Blood, we will be uploading a new song on to our Myspace page every week until December 8th for you to preview. ….

.. ..

The songs we have selected to share with you are as follows:….

.. ..

Week of November 23rd – Castrato….

Week of November 30th – Enchanted Parkway….

Week of December 7th – On a Frozen Beach….

.. ..

This week’s song preview, Enchanted Parkway, was the first song written with our as of then new drummer, Bill Cole, after releasing our last album, Second to the Last Frontier. It started out as a surf-punk jam between Josh, who in his mind “just wanted to write a shitty surf song”, and Jeff who just wanted to rock. The song ended up evolving into a raucous garage explosion that would be the punctuation to the album that would follow, Brand New Blood. The guitars are loud and bratty, a nod to the Dead Kennedy’s East Bay Ray; Sergey at the piano and keys takes the song down a rolling, nauseating swirl as the dual drum attack of Jeff and Bill become the menacing wolf knocking at the door begging for you to let it in. Jim steps up to the microphone to narrate our story of living “…every morning down a water slide” doing his best not to lose his stomach while giving it his all. Our friend Joel Cuplin, from the bands Triumph of Lethargy Skinned Alive to Death and Constant Lovers, provided us with the destructive honks and wonks that would be the epic saxophone solo to end ….Enchanted Parkway…., leaving the listener pleasantly exhausted. ….

.. ..

Next week’s song preview will be for On a Frozen Beach, a song that has already garnered much attention at recent performances…..

.. ..

Thank you for your continued support…….

….

-Josh….

This is the bloggiest blog post I’ve seen you write yet.

I hope the album does well. I’ve met the band and they were good guys. I’ve seen them play a couple times and was impressed. And Sarathan Records is full of good people too.
