Thee Oh Sees, Sic Alps, and PMPH Just Might Mace Yer Face

One way you might think about starting off your weekend is heading over to the Funhouse Thursday night for what’s sure to be a raucous, eye-popping musical event. Local mayhem makers Partman Parthorse (Have I mentioned them?) will be opening for like minded garage throwbacks Sic Alps and Thee Oh Sees. Both are from San Franscisco, by the way, and both drench catchy guitar pop with reverb and racket (not unlike their buds the Intelligence). Moreso for Thee Oh Sees, whose new record Help (at least they omitted the exclamation point) is a gruff, snarky burst of discordant melodies, a cracked homage to the early punk bands of the 50s and 60s and the culmination of all the crud swimming around in John Dwyer’s head. Squeezed through “finely” tuned axes and blasted through gritty tube amps, the result is pure reckless garage rock bliss.

Chances are Thee Oh Sees will wind back around this here city, but chances are you might regret missing this immediately promising show. Perchance you simply aren’t available, you could always check out the Intelligence at the Comet on Saturday instead. Chances are it’ll be just as rad.
