Noise For The Needy Festival Kicked Off Last Night (and I wasn’t there)
June 11th, 2009
Festival season here in the Puget Sound is kicking into high gear (pedal to the metal, dudes), with all sorts of recent announcements being broadcast over the ether and internets (see: Capitol Hill Block Party, Doe Bay Fest, Decibel Festival, West Seattle Summerfest, Georgetown Musicfest aka Artopia, others I’m forgetting). The eminent Noise for the Needy commenced last night (6/10) with a rousing show from Slender Means, Fences, New Faces, and Red Sea Sharks at Neumos. Actually, I have no idea if it was rousing or arousing since I wasn’t even there. Ha!
.
Anyway, the point is, there are gonna be some sweet shows this weekend if you have a dime and a deed to spare. Boorish Anglo-punks Art Brut might be the sexiest name floating around (meh), but I would say the devil is actually in the details. Or, maybe, ‘the proof is in the pudding’ might be more appropriate. Tired clichés aside, go find something that suits you and support.
.
This year’s lucky beneficiary is Transitional Resources, “a licensed mental health center and residential program located in West Seattle, which offers a full spectrum of optimistic and respectful mental health services to adults with major mental illnesses”. And how. You can find nice little writeups of my two recommended shows for the weekend on our concert calendar: Grand Archives, See Me River and the Curious Mystery at the Croc tomorrow, and Point Juncture, WA, the Pica Beats, Black Whales, and Grant Olsen at Chop Suey on Saturday. Other than that, you might also want to check out Throw Me The Statue (Indy or indie?) tonight at the Tractor, the Whoremoans and Speaker Speaker Friday at the Underground Events Center (where the hell is that?) in Belltown (oh), or the shitstorm going on at the Wildrose on Saturday: MCD soundalikes Black Eyes and Neckties with Telepathic Liberation Army, Loving Thunder, and The Beats, Man (the two dudes from Pleasureboaters who didn’t leave town).
