Peaches throws down @ ShowBox Tonight!!!

June 1st, 2009

PeachesI have high hopes that the Peaches show at the Showbox tonight is going to be the enthusiastic insanity that I’ve been desiring. I have been completely enticed by all the trashy pics and lyrics that I’ve seen since I heard the Teaches of Peaches album. Peaches is the dirty electropunk predecessor to other attitude filled leading ladies, like Lady Ga Ga and Lady Sovereign. I have big expectations that the mastermind behind such catchy angst-filled vulgarity ,and great beats, will have a raging show and moving crowd. Plus, she’s now performing with a live band.

Well. I’m going to drunkenly applaud my own post. While the DJ that opened for Peaches, with a paint white face, ripped into old terrority by spinning Missy Elliot and Jay Z jams from 2001, Peaches came out fresh and moving. At 40, Peaches moved the crowd as hard as the always sold out Ghostland Observatory. The set kicked off with the A-Team theme and masked figures. Peaches hit the stage with a ridiculously commanding puffy armed pink shirt and within minutes was crowd surfing and singing. Appreciating a great performance does not always require that you have memorized the past couple albums. I can attest to this, as I moved to songs from 3 recent albums which I have yet to hear. The night played on through several encores (and wardrobe changes) and the crowd was sweaty (shirtless?) mess of dancing. Also, a special thank you to Noc Noc for your happy hour that runs until 9pm!
