It’s a Dead Man’s Party!
October 13th, 2008
For Seattle, Halloween seems to be a grown-up holiday. Other places I’ve lived really focus on the kiddies and the trick-or-treating, hay rides and pumpkin carving competitions an’ all that. Here its all about the party, and for me, personally, I feel it’s better than Christmas. MUCH better. I mean, on Halloween you get to dress up any way you want, not in that stupid hand-me-down suit from your weird cousin, you always get candy and chocolate as gifts, not friggen socks, and pulling pranks is expected, not frowned upon like when you light a hymnal on fire in the church bathroom, and being evil.. well, for ONE day, that’s a good thing. Now it’s been a while since Halloween has landed on a proper weekend. We always seem to be scratching our heads trying to figure out if we should throw down the weekend before or the weekend after. And you can just FORGET about getting all bloodied up for a Tuesday night..eh? Well, this year the the Holy Hallow’s Eve hits on a Friday and the freaks are gunna come out – in droves. Seems like any bar/venue/porch with 5 square feet of stage is hosting an all-star event. I’ve got a quick run-down of some of the best (public) goings ons. Listed in no particular order.. except the first one… which I’d say is about the coolest idea ever.

Zombie Prom @ King Cat Theater
This Halloween night the dead will rise again. Reborn are all those insecurities from High School, but this time the way to overcome them is simple, just chop off the head! Zombie Prom has got to be the greatest theme party idea of all time. It’s the quintessential “Dead Man’s Party”. Zombies and the living dead dance shake their bones to tons of live local music. Other over the top offerings of Zombie Prom are horror movie visuals, Zenzi Girls Burlesque, trippy paper mache mushrooms and crazy robots!! Seriously, they’re crazy.

What better a band to kicjk the teeth outta Halloween than The Sonics. I mean one of their all-time hits is “The Witch”. This is Seattle’s original garage band… Well, they’re from Tacoma really but frig, did they teach us a bit about making real music. I had heard this show sold out right away, but when I checked earlier today (10-13), there were still tix left on the floor in the back of the room. Grab them here… or better yet, head to the box office.
