More Summertime Festivals in the NW

July 14th, 2008

The summertime music festivals keep popping up around here like mole piles in the yards of Bellevue McMansions. This weekend there are two great events happening in the NW that had somehow slipped under the radar.

-

Doe Bay Fest 08The first of these is the Doe Bay Fest ‘08 happening on the pristine Orcas Island this Saturday July 19th from 11am to 10pm. One of the beautiful things about this festival is the fact that there is camping available for all levels. From pitchin’ a tent, to renting a yurt or even a full cabin. For reservations, call 360-376-2291
The lineup for the DB Fest ‘08 has a laid back vibe of alt-country with a couple Seattle gems in the mix including the Maldives, Time Seely and one of my favorites, 17th Chapter, who don’t really classify as alt-country… I’m not really sure they can be classified.
Tickets are $30 in advance, $40 on the day of show – kids under 12 free!

Also happening this weekend is the Whistler Music Festival.

Whistler Music FestSeems like this little corner of BC is becoming the place to gather for music in the summertime as much as it is the place for killer powder days in the winter. This is a 2 day festival from Sat, July 19th at 11:00am-Sun, July 20th at 8:00pm. They have definitely gathered up some big names for this little party and it doesn’t look like it will disappoint. Daily admission is about $65.
I’d advise you to check out Craigslist for condos in the village. There are always places available last-minute for seriously discounted summer prices if you look for ‘em.
Partial Whistler Music Fest Lineup includes

-
Saturday
Thievery Corporation
The Roots
Bedouin Soundclash
Meshell Ndegeocello
Serena Ryder

-

Sunday
Elvis Costello And The Imposters
Broken Social Scene
Allen Toussaint Band
Robert Randolph & The Family Band
Medeski Martin & Wood
